Samsung and LG plan to launch Mini LED TVS larger than 100 inches

On July 15, Korean media reported that Samsung and LG are ready to launch more than 100 inches of Mini LED TV, and purchase panel materials from Chinese enterprises to join the 100-inch and above super-size TV market dominated by Chinese TV manufacturers, and related products will be launched in 2025.

Korean media pointed out that the Mini LED TV is essentially an LCD product, which uses LED with a size of 100 to 200 microns in the backlight part, so that the LCD has higher brightness and contrast, and the display effect is comparable to OLED at the same time, the price is lower.

At present, Samsung and LG mainly layout Micro Led TV products in the field of 100-inch large-size TVS. However, because its price is more expensive, with a unit price of more than 100 million won (about 524,000 yuan), the main target market space of the product is small.

In addition to Micro LED TVS, Samsung and LG have also released super-sized TVS of more than 100 inches in the past, but due to high product prices and changes in industry display technology, the product was eventually discontinued.

As can be seen from the company's official website, at present, the largest TV size that can be purchased by Samsung and LG is 98 inches (excluding Micro LED TVS).

Korean media said that relevant industry analysts believe that Samsung and LG Electronics plan to release oversized Mini LED TVS, the main purpose is to participate in the competition with Chinese TV manufacturers. Both TCL and Hisense, China's leading TV makers, are expanding their lineup of 100-inch or larger TVS. TCL set up a company in South Korea last year and sells the 115-inch Mini LED TV, the world's largest. Hisense plans to launch a 110-inch Mini LED TV this year, showing that Chinese companies are boosting their brand image through super-sized TVS.

In terms of panel procurement, Korean media believes that because Samsung Display and LG Display have withdrawn from the LCD panel market, Samsung Display has withdrawn from the LCD business in 2022. LG Display is currently looking to sell its last LCD factory in Guangzhou, China. If Samsung and LG layout the oversized Mini LED TV market, it is expected to purchase LCD panels from Chinese manufacturers.
